Six movies full of alien body snatching

We all know that when the aliens arrive, they’re totally going to take over our bodies, probably with tentacles. Arm yourself for that fateful day with these six E.T. possession flicks:

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

From our review: “When you don’t instantly know who’s a copy and who’s an original, when you’re not sure where the plants are going to try to get you next, when you don’t have a clue how widespread the invasion is… it gets really hard to wrap your head around it all.”

Body Snatchers (1993)

From our review: “With less than 90 minutes of runtime, Body Snatchers doesn’t give itself the luxury of the slow burn. It has to hustle to make this setting claustrophobic and unsettling. Figures in silhouette, shadows, up close shots all throw the audience off, and dang if it’s not effective.”

The Puppet Masters (1994)

From our review: “If this movie was made just three years later, this would all be terrible CGI, but happily, the alien slugs are practical effects that look pretty creepy in motion.”

The Faculty (1998)

From our review: “Traversing briefly into metaphor land, movies like this and Disturbing Behavior serve to outline the (pun upcoming) alienation of teenagers and their distrust of authority figures. Do we ever lose this feeling? I don’t think so.”

The Thing (1982)

From our review: “It’s a lot of what you’ve seen in other movies — part Alien, part Invasion of the Body Snatchers — but The Thing has fun bringing a splatterpunk haunted house experience to an interesting locale.”

They Live (1988)

From our review: “Apparently, aliens have invaded Earth a while back, but nobody noticed because the country was caught up in the lovable antics of Alf. It’s also because these immensely freaky creatures have the ability to completely disguise themselves as normal people.”
