Despite you wanting it bad enough, movie sequels don’t always happen — and when they do, not quite the way you’d like. But there’s been a strange trend as of late for TV commercials to reunite movie casts and bring you a minute or so of the film sequel that you always wanted. Hey, it’s better than nothing! So today, we’re going to look at six commercials that had a lot of fun bringing us back to the past.
“Home Alone Again”
What would Home Alone look like if Kevin was grown up and had access to modern technology? Google made this minute-long homage to the Christmas classic with a 38-year-old Macaulay Culkin finally getting to eat a bite of his mac and cheese before scaring off the Wet Bandits.
“A Holiday Reunion”
Thirty-seven years after E.T. crashed-landed into theaters, Xfinity brought him back for a surprisingly good four-minute mini-movie. E.T. spends the holidays with Eliott (Henry Thomas) and messes around with modern technology. But I dare you not to get choked up at how happy Eliott is to see his old friend and hear that John Williams score again!

“ScissorHandsFree”
It seems that every year at the Superbowl, we get at least one of these commercial sequels, and in 2021, it was the follow-up to Edward Scissorhands. Winona Ryder returned to play the now-mom to her scissor-handed son. It’s shot very much like the movie with some of the same fun beats of the original.
I have been really enjoying the Edgar Scissorhands one.
It’s cute!
